Hard to Reach Stumps

Will a stump grinder fit through my gate?

·3 min read

Half the calls we get start the same way: "I have a stump in the backyard, but the gate is only three feet wide. Can you even get back there?" The short answer is yes. The longer answer is why we run the machine we run.

The machine is built for this

A standard residential stump grinder is a big tow-behind unit that needs a wide opening and room to swing. Ours is a compact self-propelled grinder. It passes through a normal 36-inch gate and runs on tracks, so it does not tear up a lawn the way a wheeled machine can.

What to check before we arrive

  • Measure the gate opening at its narrowest point
  • Make sure the gate opens fully and latches open
  • Note any steps, drop-offs, or low branches on the path
  • Clear anything you can: hoses, toys, firewood

If there is a step down into the yard or a tight turn, tell us in the text. We have done plenty of these and we will know before we load up whether it works.

Send a photo of the path, not just the stump

A picture of the stump tells us the size. A picture of the gate and the path in tells us whether it is a same-day job or one we plan around. Text both to (860) 387-8396 and we will tell you straight.
